Charlotte Area Group Lessons
Swing
dancing is a BLAST. You've thought swing dancing looked fun but never
got around to learning it? It's great exercise for the body and mind--but don't
be fooled by the misconception that it's usually done at racing speeds.
Swing Jazz music makes you naturally tap your feet, others in the dance scene
want you to dance with them, and you can learn enough to start swing
dancing in a very short time. Lessons are also the perfect icebreaker for getting to know other dancers.

Several locals are holding swing dance lessons in the Charlotte

specifics.

Thursday evenings at the Southern Star Ballroom
Beginner and Intermediate walk-ins are welcome every week.
Note: The dance style called "West Coast Swing" is a
descendant of Lindy Hop, usually danced to modern R&B rather than
swing jazz music. It contains many of the same basic patterns and has
the same challenging beginner's learning curve--but in both cases, it's
worth it. A notable difference in style is that WCS can be more funky
and popping, rather than grounded and swingin' like Lindy Hop.
Even though WCS needs different music (and therefore needs separate
events from our swing jazz music events), it's included on this website
because some dancers do both styles, and broadening your skills will
make you better.
